Clear Tile Lang is where people produce and sell translucent/clear tiles. The tiles' function was similar to color glass in modern times-- to allow certain amount of light shine through. Thus, they were used as rooftiles or lamp covers. However, they are also nothing like glasses. The tiles were made out of goats' horn and dyes! This made much more sense back then, as a common alternative raw material was sea shell. The fact that Nanjing is  a river side city made those material less accessible and affordable for Nanjing residents.

Today, it is known as one of the Nanjing residents' favored local eatery gathering places. It hosts foods not only from Nanjing, but also other Chinese cities. After sanitation inspection and treatment in recent years, it gradually comes back as a place with higher food safety and sanitation standards. However, the original restaurant owners might not stay due to sanitation/rent/financing/handcraft skills heritage issues.  If you had a chance to visit, look for the ones that look nice. Usually when the owner is the operator him or herself, looks very adept at what he or she does, and the food smells good, go for it!
