Pilu Temple used to be a small temple iin MING. It was in QING when Zeng Guoquan, the government's ambassador in Naniing, expanded the temple's operation. Pilu temple was then the biggest temple in Nanjing. As a result, MIN GUO recognized it as the national buddhism research center and traditional chinese medicine research center. However, during both the war again Japan and the Cultural revolution, all buddha's sculptures were gone.

Luckily, the head of the buddhism association suggested people to restore the business of the temple. In 2006, for the first time in 40 years, a  buddha master satrted to regulate the temple.

Today it still opens tothe public for religious service.
