As Zheng He and his crew just embarked their odyssey in the ocean, MING emperor Zhu Di wished them good luck by building Mazu Palace near the Yangtze River. In the warfare later, Mazu Palace was almost completely destoryed.
However, to comemorate Zheng He's great odyssey, Nanjing government invested in palace restoration and reopened it in 2004 for public access. It also provides religious service.
明朝1407年左右，郑和下西洋刚刚开始。明成祖朱棣向天妃娘娘企求郑和船队平安，而建了天妃宫。每次郑和回国都会到天妃宫祭祀妈祖1。郑和每次回国都带回珍宝，于是朱棣又建了静海寺来供奉这些东西，顺便作为对于郑和的嘉奖。虽然此后天妃宫受到太平天国和日军侵华战火侵袭，但是一直是南京民间赶妈祖庙会的必去之所。
